15c202d bpo-35046: do only one system call per line (logging.StreamHandler) When sys.stderr (or whatever other stream) is unbuffered, the current behavior results in two system calls and allows log records from different processes to concatenate on the same line in the output stream (followed by multiple newlines). This issue is new in Python 3.7, as stdout and stderr became "truly unbuffered" (cf. bpo-30404). 22 October 2018, 19:46:07 UTC

b193fa9 bpo-33499: Add PYTHONPYCACHEPREFIX env var for alt bytecode cache location. (GH-6834) In some development setups it is inconvenient or impossible to write bytecode caches to the code tree, but the bytecode caches are still useful. The PYTHONPYCACHEPREFIX environment variable allows specifying an alternate location for cached bytecode files, within which a directory tree mirroring the code tree will be created. This cache tree is then used (for both reading and writing) instead of the local `__pycache__` subdirectory within each source directory. Exposed at runtime as sys.pycache_prefix (defaulting to None), and can be set from the CLI as "-X pycache_prefix=path". Patch by Carl Meyer. 16 June 2018, 04:40:56 UTC

ef24b6c bpo-31432: Clarify ssl CERT_NONE/OPTIONAL/REQUIRED docs. (GH-3530) The documentation for CERT_NONE, CERT_OPTIONAL, and CERT_REQUIRED were misleading and partly wrong. It fails to explain that OpenSSL behaves differently in client and server mode. Also OpenSSL does validate the cert chain everytime. With SSL_VERIFY_NONE a validation error is not fatal in client mode and does not request a client cert in server mode. Also discourage people from using CERT_OPTIONAL in client mode. 11 June 2018, 22:59:45 UTC

800415e bpo-33656: On Windows, add API call saying that tk scales for DPI (GH-7137) On Windows 8.1+ or 10, with DPI compatibility properties of the Python binary unchanged, and a monitor resolution greater than 96 DPI, this should make text and lines sharper. It should otherwise have no effect. Using a magnifier, I determined that the improvement comes from horizontal and lines being better lined up with the monitor pixels. I checked that this call causes no problem on any Windows buildbot, including the Win7 buildbots. Unlike most IDLE patches, this one can be easily reverted by users by removing a few lines, at the top of idlelib/pyshell.py. 11 June 2018, 18:14:32 UTC
